Interview-Heather Faith Dispensa (Carol)
Heather Faith Dispensa was until three months ago Heather Faith Stricker;
and then she got married, which must make her our expert on Love! She is a tall,
self-assured actress who can handle anything from singing classical music at
Carnegie Hall to performing in USO shows all over the country. She plays Carol in
Love! That 4-Letter Word. When not on stage, Heather is also the website designer for
www.lovethat4letterword.com!
What bought you to NYC?
I came to NYC from Tucson, AZ to (you guessed it) live the dream,
singing, acting, waitressing; what have you.
Is it a career for you? How do you feel about that?
It most certainly is and it took awhile to get here.
I joke about the waitressing, but I did it for the first 5 years that I lived here.
I can now proudly and honestly say that I work solely as a performer. Ahhh,
it feels good. Let's see how long I can make it last!
What do you like most about your character in Love!?
That she is so different than me. Though, I must admit,
I see some things that I think I have buried inside me. Carol just happens to express
things out loud that I may try to keep inside. Often times I try to talk myself out of
making a big deal over things that bug me in my relationships, but once in awhile I
will read something in the script and think, "Ya, the toilet paper SHOULD roll from the
over the top, damn it!" Carol is making it very hard for Heather to keep in the "ugly"
side. It makes her very fun to play. And it makes my husband just a little scared as
well, I think. . . Though he won't admit it.
Any personal stage stories we should hear?
Oh, where to start. I have fallen through the trap door
in a stage....that was fun. But my own personal misery was in a performance of
The Pirates of Penzance I played Mabel and the song "Sorry her Lot" was added from
another G & S show as a Mabel solo, and I simply could not remember the freaking words!
So, I sang the line "Sorry her lot who loves too well..." EVERY LINE! Literally, the entire
song consisted of only those words. The worst was hearing the giggles of the cast members off
stage.
Your favorite personal love story
My husband's Grandparents. We sang at their 60th Wedding Anniversary
a few days before we got engaged. I'll never forget it.
Your favorite old love song?
"Your Face" by Roberta Flack
Favorite place for a date in NY and why
On our couch with some popcorn and a good movie.
Or a really expensive restaurant like Babbo or Le Bernardin, though since we're actors,
the latter doesn't happen too often. We have a comfy couch, so it's cool.
Is romance alive today? How do you know?
Of course it is! It's just a little harder to recognize,
I think. Walk through Central Park one day and look at the way people look at each other.
It's there. My husband did the dishes tonight without saying a word. Now THAT is romantic!
Have you been in love? What is/was it like?
Oh it's brilliant. It has many layers...like an onion.
(Thanks Shrek) There are good days and bad, there are special moments and fights.
But all of it put together equals a closeness that no one can touch. It's lovely.
